It's Garbage Day!
Today is Friday aka Garbage Truck Day. Brendan loves to watch the trashmen come in the great truck, work hard and move on down the road. He always sits on the front porch and waves and thanks them for taking the trash. Well, I have been working on a lot of Fridays lately so we haven't had a chance to see the trashmen for about a month. But today was a sick day and what a sick day it was.
Brendan is busy eating his cheese toast for breakfast when the familiar sound of the big truck interrupts. Brendan eagerly runs to the door. Mommy truck, trash truck, Mommy truck, truck, trash. So we put our shoes on as quick as we can and run out the door. It seems that the trash men have missed Brendan as well, for they put on quite a show. They jump on and off the truck, toot the horn and throw the trashcans back and forth to each other as they wave and smile at the ecstatic observer who claps and cheers in delight. Yeah, trash truck, trash, bye-bye truck, bye-bye, he waves as the truck disappears around the corner.
Well just when you thought the day couldn't get any better than this, it came time for the recycling truck. Again Brendan rushes to the door in his diaper and t-shirt. There is no need to waste time getting dressed and take the chance of missing the great truck, so I scoop him up and throw my coat around him and rush out the door. Dutchess is also excited to see the recycling guys and bolts out to greet them. The gentlemen of the recycling truck appear to be quite fascinated by the 3 legged dog and their little admirer. They not only invite Brendan into the truck, but they let him turn the big steering wheel and watch up close as they dump our numerous Pepsi, Gatorade, OJ and Milk containers into the truck. Without realizing it, these two gentlemen have just turn the much looked forward to arrival of the recycling truck into a desperate we can never be gone again on the performance day of the GREAT RECYCLING COLLECTOR MACHINE! As we are exiting the great recycling collector machine, the truck driver gives a great big smile and blows the air horn. With a huge smile and cheers, Brendan squirms in delight as he high-fives the gentlemen of the great recycling collector machine truck and wishes them on their way, "tank-you, bye-bye, bye-bye truck, goo-day, bye-bye truck."
Thank you to the wonderful garbage and recycling guys who turned a boring sick day into an event full of action and adventure.
