Dirty Monster

So I walk into Brendan Reef's room to find a perfectly content happy little boy in the midst of utter chaos.  I follow with the words spoken many times before with a gentle firm request to clean his room.


My son replies with a calm straight face, "Mom, I don't think that is a good idea."
Mommy inquisitively replies, "No, why not?"
Brendan Reef answers, "Because of the Dirty Monster."
Mommy questions again, "Dirty Monster?"



Brendan Reef replies, "Yes Dirty Monster.  He is a crazy monster with five eyes.  He even has five legs and five feet but he doesn't have a tail.  He does has five mouths.  Actually the five mouths fit together to make one big mouth with five tongues." 

Mommy questions yet again, "Really?"
Brendan Reef continues, "Yes, and he eats everything clean.  But he doesn't eat dirty stuff.  I am being responsible and taking care of my toys by leaving them dirty.  I think it is best to leave my room messy."


Brendan gives that big smile that only comes when one is really really pleased with himself and then immediately returns to playing contently among the chaos.   that is  his room.
